Are you benefiting from the Trusted Traveler program when returning from visiting your overseas customers?

5/16/2013

Are you an SME exporter?  Are you enrolled in Global Entry?  If not, you may be wasting your valuable time standing in line to clear US Customs and Border Protection checkpoint at the airport.

Become a “Trusted Traveler” by joining CBP’s Global Entry program which allows expedited clearance for pre-approved, low-risk travelers upon arrival in the United States.  Being a Trusted Traveler means you may also qualify for expedited clearance through TSA security for domestic and international flights.

Though intended for frequent international travelers, there is no minimum number of trips necessary to qualify as a Trusted Traveler. Participants may enter the United States by using automated kiosks located at select airports.  Global Entry is open to US citizens and lawful permanent residents.  In addition, Dutch citizens, South Korean citizens and Mexican nationals may apply. Canadian citizens and residents may enjoy Global Entry benefits through membership in the NEXUS program.

The process is simple:
  1. Apply online.  The non-refundable fee is $100.
  2. Schedule an interview with US CBP.  Enrollment centers are located in more than thirty major airports.
  3. Meet with a US CBP officer.  A US Customs and Border Protection officer will ask you questions, take your photo, and collect biometric information, e.g., scan your fingerprints.
  4. Provide valid ID.  Passport(s) and one other form of identification, such as a driver's license is required.
  5. Get approved and start using Global Entry.  You should know the day of the interview if you have been approved, and will be issued a Trusted Traveler number.

Apply today so that you can get back to the office and move forward to send your international export sales to your international customers that much sooner.
